Step-by-step instructions for applying a circular line to a mat along with the required supplies.

(DO NOT USE household or other commercial paints.
They may not adhere properly, crack over time, and may damage mat)

  • Resilite Vinyl Paints
  •  Resilite Solvents (MEK)

  • Paint Tray & Paint Tray liners for each color

  • Brushes/Paint Roller – Roller for each color

  •  Masking Tape (1/2”)

  • Mild soap detergent

  • Water

  • Bucket

  • Rags (white only)

  •  Paint can opener

  • Cardboard

  • Baby Powder or Cornstarch

  • Soft White Chalk

  • Tape Measure

  • Chalk Line or Masonry String

a.   Never use household or commercial paints. These other paints may cause damage to the wrestling mat and will void Resilite’s warranty/guarantee. Use Resilite’s Vinyl Paint. It was specially created for flexibility and stretching with the mat and for better adhesion.

b. Read Cautions and Warnings on Paint & Solvents Can. These materials are highly FLAMMABLE!

c.    Do NOT have any sparks or flames within the vicinity where you’ll be working on the

Directions:

1. Find the center of the mat, or overall center of the area where you want to apply the circle.

a. If adding lines to existing circle – Locate center of existing circle.

2. Using Chalk Line or Masonry String – Have someone hold the string tight on the center mark and walk

out toward the existing circle. You should be able to follow the circle arc with the string. Continue over to the new section where you want to continue the circle line.

3. Following the circle arc, gently draw the outer circle line with chalk. Find the inside of the circle line and draw with chalk.

4. Take the masking tape and carefully follow your chalk line that you drew. Position the tape on the outer

edge of the chalk line. Repeat creating the inside edge of the circle line.

5. Once you have everything taped and securely holding to the mat. Carefully wipe the area inside the

tape with MEK Solvent. The mat should feel tacky where you activated it with solvent.

6. Place cardboard on mat close to the area that you’ll be working on. Use this cardboard to place paints,

rags, and other supplies on. This will help to protect the mat and accidental spills.

7. Using a 2” wide roller – carefully paint the circle line. – Be careful not to cross over the tape onto the

mat. Apply two thin coats of paint rather than one heavy coat.

a. For a second and/or third coat, put on a fairly large amount of paint onto the roller. Wait

approximately 10 - 15 minutes between coats.

b. For other paint colors, use a new paint tray liner & roller so that the paint won’t become

polluted with the first paint color. If you only have one paint tray, pour any extra paint back into

the can. Let the paint tray dry & and remove paint residue from the paint tray.

c. Vinyl paint can be thinned slightly by adding solvents (MPK or MEK).

8. If any paint seeps under the tape or splattered outside of the masked area, use a rag with some solvents

and lightly try to take the paint off that seeped. Keep using a new area of the rag so the paint

doesn’t smear. Use a dabbing motion trying to only touch the seeped or splattered paint. If you wipe too

much, you will remove the protective mat surface coating.

9. Allow the paint to dry overnight.

10. Before rolling up the mat, rub baby powder or cornstarch over the area that you had painted. This will help to keep newly painted area from binding to the mat when rolled.

From Center Point of circle – stretch out the string to form the circle arc.

Using Chalk - Carefully draw the circle arc. –

You will need to draw both the outside of the circle line and inside of the circle line.

Tape the lines you drew. Keep the tape inside the inside line and Outside of the outside line.

You should have approx. 2” space inside (between) the taped lines.
