Classic Mat Storage

How to store a Resilite Classic Mat without permanently compressing or wrinkling it — flat storage, tube rolling technique, strap placement, temperature limits, and safe lifting. 

Do not throw away the mat storage tubes

Failure to use mat storage tubes may damage your mat and cause permanent deep wrinkles and creases. Keep both the storage tubes and the straps that came with your mat.

Prepare the mat for storage
  1. Always inspect, clean, and dry the mat before storing. Never roll up a mat that is not fully dry.
  2. Remove all mat tape. Tape left on the surface for an extended period may permanently bond to the mat, causing surface damage and peeling.
Recommended storage: flat

Resilite recommends storing your mat in a warm, dry area, flat, and at room temperature. Make sure the floor is clean and dry. If moisture is a concern, place a barrier of smooth plastic underneath the mat.

Alternative: tube storage

If flat storage is not an option, always use the storage tubes provided to tightly roll your mat sections. Before rolling, make sure the mat is clean and free of debris, and remove the mat tape.

Technique for reducing wrinkles: Because of the nature and properties of the foam, wrinkles do and will occur. To minimize them, roll the mat from the opposite end each time, and alternate rolling from the top one time and from the bottom the next time.

Securing the rolled mat
  • Use only the mat straps provided with your mat.
  • Pull the straps snug, but do not over-tighten.
  • Position the "D" ring buckle across the end of the mat roll.
  • Space the straps evenly, approximately four to five feet apart.
  • When storing mat sections on top of one another, make sure the strap buckle is not between the mats.
Unacceptable storage and securing

Mats will permanently compress if stored improperly. Resilite cannot repair or warranty compressed mats.

  • Never store mats on mat movers, transporters, or carts. Permanent damage will occur and is not covered under warranty.
  • Never store mats against, on top of, or beneath other objects — impressions will occur.
  • Do not use chains, ropes, wires, tape, or ratchet straps to secure the mat. These leave impressions and cuts in the mat surface and foam.
  • Make sure the buckle is not between mats when stacking.
Temperature limits in storage
  • Never store the mat below 60°F or above 140°F.
  • If the mat has been stored in cold temperatures, it should never be dropped, rolled, or unrolled until it has been kept at 60°F or higher for at least 24 hours.
Handling and transporting mats

When lifting a rolled mat section onto a mat cart, always use several people.

EZ-Lifter Bar — allows two people to safely lift one end of a standard mat section so a mat cart can be placed underneath. The EZ-Lifter Bar must always be used with mat tubes.

Resi-Wheeler — available with standard 16" tires or in a low-profile design with 10" tires.

WARNING: Remove the mat from the transporter before storing. NEVER store mats on mat transporters or carts. Permanent damage to the mat will occur, and this damage is not covered under warranty.
